A Jolly June in Junior Infants

As we come to the end of the year in Junior Infants, we are making sure to go out with a bang! Between our Teddy Bears Picnic, Intercultural Week, Active Week and lots of fun in-between, we certainly have been a busy bunch.

Intercultural Week was at the start of the month and we had so much fun learning about each other’s cultures, backgrounds and countries. In Room 1, the children learned all about Romania, we sang a Romanian song, completed some Romanian-inspired art and learned a Romanian dance. We also learned a bit of the Romanian language! In Room 2, the children studied Ghana. As well as learning all about the country, the children painted beautiful Ghanaian sunsets, sang a Ghanaian song accompanied by drums made by the children and practiced some Ghanaian dance.

For our school tour this year, the children ventured to the grounds of Bremore Secondary School to participate in a Teddy Bears Picnic. Each child received a bear and discussed their names. They then followed the signs which led to the location of the picnic. Here they enjoyed eating with their friends (and their bears!), playing games and listening to Niamh Sharkey’s ‘The Ravenous Beast.’ On their way home, each child received a copy of the book as well as colouring sheets. A big thank you to Fingal County Libraries for donating the books!

This week is Active Week and as part of that, the children engaged in their first ever Sports Day! We were so proud of how well the children participated in the games, they showed fantastic sportsmanship and had an absolute blast. I think we have future athletes in our midst!

This month’s Aistear theme was ‘The Campsite/ Picnic.’ The children had a wonderful time pitching their tents, preparing their barbecues, singing campfire songs and exploring the outdoors.

Overall, it was a busy month but such a fantastic end to the year. The Junior Infants this year proved to be a hardworking, enthusiastic and fun-loving bunch of children. We wish them all the best in Senior Infants, we will miss them!
