We are having so much fun exploring procedural writing this term. Our favourite procedure so far has been making rice krispies buns which was a huge success as the children took turns following their instructions in small groups. We enjoyed eating them too!! We have also made jam sandwiches and jelly, making sure to carefully follow the procedure written in our copies.

On the 5th of February, we were privileged to have Caradh O’Donovan, who is a world kick boxing champion, visit our school. The children took part in a sponsored 7minute circuit where we showed off our skills doing a range of exercises including push ups, star jumps and mountain climbers. During a whole school assembly, our very own Kara from Senior Infants was lucky to be chosen to put on the boxing gloves and learn some new skills one on one with Caradh.

Over the past few weeks, the children have been learning all about dental hygiene and took part in the Mighty Mouth programme. Each week we focused on a new aspect of dental hygiene ranging from dental visits to food which are kind to our teeth. On the 7th of February, Adrienne the dentist came to visit our classrooms and presented us with certificates for successfully completing the ‘Mighty Mouth’ programme.

This month’s topic in Aistear is ‘The Marketplace’. We have been busy making shopping lists and spending all our money! The children have really enjoyed taking on the roles of customer, butcher, baker, shopkeeper, florist, fishmonger and greengrocer to name a few. We are looking forward to helping our families on the next food shopping trip!
