Finding our feet in First Class!

The children in Mrs Yeates’s First class have been so busy exploring and learning for the past few months. They have organised and participated in a sponsored walk in which they raised €217.50 for Dublin Zoo, and have now adopted a baby penguin as part of their fundraising. The children have taken part in GAA for the past few weeks and learned many new skills as well as some dance moves!

During science week, a parent in our class who works in a laboratory made a video for our class to watch about her role and duties, and the children had great fun learning all about the various tools used in the lab. The children also explored insects and bugs and went on a bug hunt to find items to build a bug hotel. As a treat, they then made slime which was quite messy but a lot of fun!

The children have been working so hard with their reading, writing, and numeracy skills and they just amaze me every day! During well being week they took part in an emoji scavenger hunt and took some time out to relax, meditate and enjoy some music.

They have also had the chance to take part in two amazing projects, firstly the Water Wishes Workshop run by GOAL. Through participating in this workshop the children were learning how to become global citizens and explored life below the water and the importance of maintaining healthy oceans. Below the children were talking to Jessica from GOAL. The second initiative they have been so lucky to be part of is the Picker Pals programme where, as a class, they are learning about the importance of creating a better environment and the children and their families get to engage in litter picking adventures together.

I think you will agree they have been a busy bunch and have most definitely found their feet in first class this year! I am super proud and hope you are too!
